We are FSC® Certified
At O’Brien Timber Products we understand that forests are essential for human survival and well-being, that they are among the most biodiverse and valuable terrestrial ecosystems on the planet and contribute to the livelihoods of the human population worldwide.
Furthermore, as a manufacturer of timber-based products we recognise that we have a responsibility to current and future generations and are therefore committed to sustainable forest management. We do this by maintaining and complying with the FSC® (Forest Stewardships Councils®) Chain of Custody requirements and the FSC Values as defined in FSC - POL-01– 004.
Accordingly, O’Brien Timber Products is not directly or indirectly involved in any of the following activities;
- Illegal logging or the trade in illegal wood or forest productsViolation of traditional and human rights in forestry operations
- Destruction of high conservation values in forestry operations
- Signification conversion of forests to plantations or non-forest use
- Introduction of genetically modified organisms in forestry operations
- Violation of any of the ILO Core Conventions as defined in the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, 1998.
We actively support the objectives of the Forest Stewardship Council and take all reasonable measures to ensure that we only purchase from companies that are also committed to sustainable forest management.
Only our products that are made of FSC-certified and other controlled material are sold with an FSC Mix claim (minimum claim of FSC Mix 70%). All of our Rustic Garden Sheds, Chalets, Summerhouses and Garages carry the FSC Mix Claim.
Any claims that wood being purchased by O’Brien Timber Products is from unacceptable sources will be formally investigated and records of the same will be maintained. We achieve our objectives through the appointment of an FSC Management Representative and Management System.
What is FSC?
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international, non-governmental organisation dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. Since its foundation in 1994, FSC has grown to become the world’s most respected and widespread forest certification system.
Chain of Custody (COC) Certification
Chain of custody certification is how the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) verifies that forest-based materials produced according to their rigorous standards are credibly used along the product’s path from the forest to becoming finished goods.
Any company involved in the processing or transformation of FSC-certified products (e.g. manufacturing, repackaging, pack-splitting, relabelling, cutting to size or adding other forest-based components to the product) must be FSC certified in order to apply an FSC label to their products and/or sell them with an FSC claim.
The FSC label on a finished product signals that the materials used during production have met the chain of custody requirements at every step in the supply chain, from sourcing to distribution.
